Party snack mix
This crunchy snack mix is a hit at gatherings. Adding nuts into the mix adds protein and fibre.

Ingredients
- 4 cups (1 L) wheat square cereal
- 4 cups (1 L) crispy wheat cereal
- 2 cups (500 mL) small, thin pretzels
- 2 cups (500 mL) mixed nuts
- ½ cup (125 mL) melted, soft non-hydrogenated margarine
- 1 Tbsp (15 mL) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp (5 mL) celery salt
- 1 tsp (5 mL) each garlic and onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, combine wheat squares, crispy wheat cereal, pretzels and nuts.
- In a small bowl, mix the melted non-hydrogenated margarine, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, garlic powder and onion powder.
- Sprinkle wet mixture over dry mixture and toss to coat.
- Spread mixture out on a large baking sheet or roasting pan. Cover and cook 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Uncover and cook an additional 15 minutes.
Tips:
- Nutrition know-how: Nuts contain protein and fibre but they also contain fat. The type of fat is healthy unsaturated fat but it still contributes to calories. Because of this, a serving size of most nuts is ¼ cup (60 mL).
- Substitution: If you have a nut allergy you can substitute the mixed nuts with roasted soy beans, edamame or chickpeas. Most are available in grocery or bulk stores. These will provide similar protein and fibre as compared to the nuts.
