COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

Diabetes Canada’s D-Camps requires that staff, volunteers, and all eligible participants (age 5 +) be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their arrival at D-Camps for in-person programming. For D-Camps, fully vaccinated means two doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine.

Diabetes Canada’s vaccination policy is based on the recommendations of D-Camps’ National Medical Task Force as one measure to protect against the spread of COVID-19. Participants will be asked to use their province’s verification systems as the means for demonstrating proof of vaccination. The D-Camps Medical Task Force is comprised of 11 individuals from across the country from a variety of health-care professions, including pediatric endocrinologists, ER physicians, registered nurses and certified diabetes educators.

D-Camps will accommodate all individuals who are entitled to vaccination exemptions. Thank you for your support in protecting the health and safety of our campers, families, employees, and community.

Thank you for your support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been tough on everyone, and changed a lot of what we were used to and loved, including our Diabetes Canada D-Camps programs.

Like many organizations, we had to pivot, and we’re glad you came along for the ride. Our A Dose of D-Camps digital program was a great success. Because of you, children living with type 1 diabetes and their families found a way to connect and maintain a sense of community in these uncertain times.

We are thrilled to share the news that D-Camps will return to in-person camps in 2022, while also offering some digital programs. The safety of our campers is our top priority. Diabetes Canada will continue to keep all D-Camps families updated as we move forward, ensuring the comfort and safety of everyone.

Our goal is to create the safest possible experience in 2022 for our entire camp community. All plans will include relevant regulations and best practices from Health Canada, as well as federal and provincial government regulations.

We are excited to welcome our campers back, and appreciate the support and patience of the entire D-Camps community during this time. Let’s continue to stay connected—please like and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Join the D-Camps family

Our summer camps are designed to provide children living with type 1 diabetes the opportunity to enjoy an authentic camp experience in a medically accommodating environment, with a dedicated team of professionals. Our campers get the chance to meet and interact with other children and staff living with type 1 diabetes.

Many of these relationships develop into lifelong friendships with others facing similar challenges. Through attending camp, we are confident your child will gain independence in managing their diabetes and feel empowered to continue the healthy practices they learn at camp and know that they are not alone in living with type 1 diabetes.
