Diabetes Canada is excited to see Yukon join Manitoba, BC, and PEI, in signing a pharmacare agreement with the Government of Canada. We applaud this announcement of a $9.5 million federal investment in pharmacare over four years, which includes access to diabetes medications, supplies and devices.
“This investment will have a real impact on people who have been diagnosed with diabetes in Yukon, easing financial pressures and improving health outcomes,” says Glenn Thibeault, Executive Director, Government Affairs, Advocacy & Policy for Diabetes Canada.
According to the Government of Canada, Yukon residents can anticipate beginning to receive coverage for these products no later than January 2026.
Better access to life-saving diabetes medications
People living with diabetes in Yukon will directly benefit from this agreement, ensuring cost is not a barrier to accessing the essential medications they need to manage their condition and prevent complications.
Diabetes Devices and Supplies
The agreement includes funding for better access to diabetes devices and supplies, aligning with Diabetes Canada’s long-standing advocacy for a federal device fund to improve affordability and accessibility of critical diabetes management tools.
Reducing Health Disparities
Ensuring access to diabetes medications and devices is essential to improving health equity and long-term outcomes for people living in Canada with diabetes, particularly in underserved communities.
