The new year is a time of resolutions and renewal, and having clear goals and the support you need to achieve them is the key to success. If you’re thinking about a new you, then the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) is here to help!
Whether you’re living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, the CDA has a wealth of healthy living resources to help you achieve your goals and be at your best. If you want to minimize your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, the CDA can help you identify your risk factors and lead a healthy lifestyle.
The CDA website (diabetes.ca) provides tips on a range of topics, from diet, nutrition and exercise to heart health, weight management and dental care. While you’re there, be sure to check out the collection of healthy and delicious recipes, which you can search by keyword, category or main ingredient.
You can also contact the CDA with your diabetes-related questions or concerns. The CDA's information and support services team responds to more than 20,000 requests per year by phone and email, and support is available in English and French. Just call toll-free at 1-800-BANTING (226-8464) or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Looking to take things a step further? Why not challenge your physical limits while helping to fund vital research, programs and services? For 15 years and counting, Team Diabetes has brought people living with diabetes and their loved ones together to walk, run and raise funds. You can visit the CDA website to join the team, find an event or pledge a participant.
There are lots of fun and practical steps you can take to improve your health—but there are also plenty of ways to support the CDA in its mission to help the more than 10 million Canadians with diabetes or prediabetes lead healthy lives. Whether you donate, volunteer, become an advocate, or support the Clothesline program with your gently used clothing and household goods, you’ll know that you’re playing a vital role in making 2016 the CDA's best year yet!
