Diabetes Canada celebrates the Government of Prince Edward Island in its budget inclusion of an additional $800,000 investment to expand the eligibility for diabetes insulin pump program and support diabetes foot clinics.
“We’re so grateful for the continued support of the Government of PEI in improving diabetes care in the province,” said Maria Campbell, Director of Government Affairs and Advocacy at Diabetes Canada. “Expanding eligibility of the insulin pump program ensures that more residents can benefit from this life-saving technology. We also recognize PEI’s leadership in improving foot care for people living with diabetes, setting a strong example for other provinces.”
An insulin pump improves the quality of life for people living with diabetes by automating insulin measurement and delivery, but it can also lead to better health outcomes. As well, diabetes foot clinics deliver an important service to people living with diabetes as it can reduce the occurrence of lower-leg and foot amputations. Diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic lower limb amputation in Canadian adults.
The Government of PEI’s total investment for diabetes supports and programs is now $2.7 million with these new investments.
