Diabetes Canada congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party of Canada on their election victory and to all Members of Parliament elected to service throughout the country.
As a non-partisan organization dedicated to improving the lives of the more than 4 million Canadians diagnosed with diabetes, Diabetes Canada looks forward to working collaboratively with the Liberal government and all Parliamentarians to advance policies that will lead to better outcomes for those affected by this chronic condition.
We are particularly eager to partner on the following key priorities:
- Ensure that people in Canada living with diabetes continue to have timely and affordable access to the medications and devices they rely on. This means mitigating any impacts from potential counter-tariffs on pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
- Continuing progress toward full implementation of the National Diabetes Framework.
- Building on recent bilateral agreements with provinces and territories by launching a fully implemented Federal Diabetes Device Access Fund.
- Expanding upon recent pharmacare initiatives in British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon to improve access to diabetes medications and devices across the country.
- Strengthening Canada’s health research ecosystem to drive innovation and improve quality of life for people living with diabetes.
Together, we can help ensure that no person in Canada is left behind in receiving the care, tools, and support they need to live well with diabetes.
