Educational Program


Banting House National Historic Site provides an opportunity to experience one of the great moments of medical science in the twentieth century – the idea that led to the discovery of insulin. In addition, your class will learn that this international hero will learn that Sir Frederick Banting was more than just the co-discoverer of insulin.

Class trip

Our guided tour program introduces the students to the life and career of Sir Frederick Banting through our collection of historical artifacts, personal stories, artwork, and photographs. Presented to students by our experienced guides – retired teachers – this program is suitable for students in Grades 6+. After completion of the tour, students will have time to self-explore the exhibits and ask questions. School tours are offered Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 2:00pm. We do prefer morning bookings as the museum is closed to the public at that time.

Museum school

In partnership with the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, senior elementary classes ‘move into the Hall’ for a full week of classes in a museum setting. As part of the program, students visit Banting House for 1.5hrs to learn about a past medical hero and imagine making medical discoveries so meaningful that their portraits are hung next to the 'real'; Hall of Fame Laureates.
