Diabetes Canada is asking people living with diabetes and those who care for them to be extra vigilant about diabetes-related products advertised on social media.
Recently Diabetes Canada has received numerous inquiries from people living with diabetes and those who care for them regarding diabetes products advertised on social media which included a fake Diabetes Canada endorsement for non-invasive blood glucose monitoring devices.
Diabetes Canada does not endorse any diabetes-related products or devices as a policy. Our team flagged nearly 30 versions of the advertisement for removal from Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram), including for unauthorized use of the Diabetes Canada logo.
The same product was advertised with fake endorsements from Diabetes Australia and the American Diabetes Association.
Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. In late 2023, Diabetes Canada issued an advisory based on a Health Canada warning regarding unauthorized blood glucose reading smartwatches citing the devices could pose serious health risks to people living with diabetes.
