0:00 my name is Ann Looney I've been 0:02 volunteering at Banting house for nine 0:04 years and I totally love 0:11 it Bandy house was first called the 0:13 birthplace of insulin in 1923 and in 0:16 1981 diabetes Canada answered the call 0:19 to turn the house into a museum and 0:21 eventually get it turned into a National 0:23 Historic Site we known as the birthplace 0:25 of insulin because it was here on 0:26 October 31st 1920 after a nightrest 0:30 asleep Banting puts to paper 25 words 0:32 that would lead to the discovery of 0:34 insulin 10 months later after of only 0:36 about 12 weeks 0:38 experiments I got involved in 0:41 volunteering because I had a tour of the 0:44 the museum and was very impressed and I 0:47 thought I want to be here I want to help 0:50 welcome to Banting House Museum when 0:53 people come to visit and they're 0:55 affected by diabetes either themselves 0:58 or their family they they get emotional 1:01 they won't walk into the bedroom where 1:04 he got the idea or they'll cry and 1:09 researchers Want To Be 1:11 Inspired it's an awesome experience just 1:14 dealing with the public and seeing what 1:16 their stories are and the impact it's 1:18 made on their 1:20 lives I was down here one day and 1:23 noticed 1:24 the struggle them it takes to keep a 1:27 museum like this open and and I thought 1:30 what can I do to make it better to keep 1:33 the museum alive and open for people in 1:35 the future I wanted to leave a more 1:38 permanent Legacy by leaving a bequest in 1:42 my will to diabetes Canada to support 1:45 Banting House Museum it was a load off 1:48 my mind cuz I knew I was doing something 1:51 positive I grew up in a small town uh 1:54 with six children and my family 1:57 community and neighbors helped out each 1:59 other and I'd like to bring that Spirit 2:01 to diabetes Canada and to banding house 2:05 so the diabetes family will help out 2:08 each other Dr bant and insulin is a big 2:13 part of our Canadian history and I'm 2:15 proud that I can support and continue 2:17 his story
