Doors Open London is an event presented by the London Heritage Council. During the event weekend which usually happens each September, the public is treated a chance to explore the many museums, heritage sites, and organizations around the city FREE of charge. Londoners, Newcomers, and visitors alike are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the city from this unique perspective.

In 2026, Doors Open London celebrates 25 incredible years of opening doors and sharing stories.

Marking a major milestone, next year’s event—happening September 19 & 20, 2026—invites Londoners to join in the celebration with the theme Cheers to Years: Celebrating 25 Years Together.

Activities onsite will include:

  • Take self-guided tours enriched with commentary from experienced guides to learn about the life and career of a national hero whose achievements to Canada often stand in the shadow of the life-saving legacy of insulin.
  • Explore “Banting as an Artist” the current installation, which features a selection of original graphite drawings and oil paintings from the collection, including some works never exhibited publicly.
  • Discover what a pancreas looks like in 3-D using a 1911 stereoscope.
  • For children and families, embark on a riveting scavenger hunt as you search for nine Lego figures hidden throughout the house, each revealing a part of the fascinating Banting story. Find them all to win a prize!
  • Leave a letter to Dr. Banting in the bedroom where he conceived his idea that led to the discovery of insulin.
  • Take a call from Canada’s first “Talking Statue” and hear in Dr. Banting’s own words how the discovery of insulin came to be and his thoughts on the importance of the discovery and supporting research today.
  • Call Hear, Here and listen to the stories of individuals who share their Banting House experiences and what the importance of place means to them.

Come see us and experience the life and career of one of one of our most celebrated international heroes and the man voted Canada’s fourth greatest Canadian. Discover the man you thought you knew.
