The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented health and economic challenges for all Canadians. The new economic reality significantly limits the ability of charitable organizations like Diabetes Canada to generate revenue and deliver vital services for people with diabetes.

Unfortunately, given these difficult circumstances, Diabetes Canada must temporarily lay off a significant portion of its staff, effective March 27, 2020.

“Like all Canadians, we are working to adapt quickly to ever-changing circumstances, and our goal remains to support the 11 million Canadians affected by diabetes or prediabetes to the greatest extent of our ability,” says Russell Williams, Acting President of Diabetes Canada.

“Now more than ever, people affected by diabetes need the information, connection, advocacy and inspiration we at Diabetes Canada are committed to providing, and we are optimistic that we will rapidly be able to refocus our programming to meet those needs in new ways. We will keep our constituents updated as details emerge and know we can count on our valued partners and donor to weather this storm.”

“We would like to thank our staff for their exemplary service and dedication to our mission and hope that circumstances will enable us to welcome them back to work soon,” says Williams.
