Healthy eating does not mean giving up traditional foods. Diabetes Canada has developed tools for cultural groups at higher risk for diabetes to help in diabetes prevention and management. By following basic guidelines and recommendations, people with diabetes can still enjoy their favourite cultural foods, achieve target blood glucose (sugar) levels and reduce the risk of complications.

  • A change in lifestyle has put Aboriginal people at a much higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than other Canadians.
  • Find a list of Chinese diabetes resources, events and services to learn more about living well with diabetes.
  • Find the Just the Basics resource and videos adapted for the Latin American community.
  • Find the Just the Basics resource adapted for the South Asian community as well as a collection of ethnic recipes that have been modified to be diabetes-friendly.
  • Diabetes GPS is an interactive website developed to provide multilingual support to people with diabetes, including those from the Chinese, South Asian and African Caribbean communities.
