This year, Austin Baron will graduate from high school and move to a new province for college.
Thankfully, the insulin pump and essential supplies Austin uses to manage her type 1 diabetes are covered by a publicly-funded insulin pump program in Saskatchewan. Without this program it could have been a choice between paying for her education, or paying for the pump that has dramatically improved her life.
Yet, there is still so much we need to do to ensure equal access to insulin pumps for all Canadians.
Right now, you have a chance to give hope to families unable to afford the $5,000 to $7,000 cost of purchasing a pump, and to those who can't afford to cover the cost of replacing an aging pump nearing the end of its lifespan.
When you give a gift online – and pledge your support of the Canadian Diabetes Association's advocacy efforts – you will help the progress already made, to ensure fair and affordable access to publicly-funded insulin pump programs, for all people in Canada.
