Healthy eating doesn’t have to be a fight

Diabetes Canada is a proud sponsor of Dietitians of Canada’s Nutrition Month campaign. Throughout March, the campaign will raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating with practical and easily accessible resources and tips to make it easier.

“People living with diabetes and those who may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes often turn to Diabetes Canada for nutrition advice and tips,” says Joanne Lewis, director, healthy eating and nutrition programming at Diabetes Canada. “This year’s nutrition month campaign touches on the idea that eating healthy doesn’t have to be a battle and we’re pleased to join in this effort to educate and raise awareness.”

Healthy eating is an important part of both preventing and managing diabetes as well as helping those living with the disease avoid complications. However, eating healthy may not always be the easiest choice for many Canadians. This is why Diabetes Canada continues to urge provincial and federal governments to introduce policies that will help prevent diabetes such as keeping children and youth healthy by restricting marketing of unhealthy food and beverage choices to kids, as well as advocating for a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages to help reduce consumption.

“We encourage Canadians to visit nutritionmonth2017.ca and explore the helpful resources there, which will provide inspiration and encouragement to end the fight with food so you can win with healthy eating. You can also visit diabetes.ca to discover healthy recipes and even more nutrition information,” says Lewis.
