This scholarship supports the professional development of two diabetes educators in their specialty practice from across the country. Novo Nordisk Scholarship Awards will be awarded to the selected Diabetes Canada Professional Section member to attend Diabetes Canada/Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) Annual Professional Conference.

Purpose

The Novo Nordisk Conference Scholarships promotes the professional development of diabetes educators by supporting their ability to attend the Diabetes Canada/Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism Annual Professional Conference.

The Award

A total of two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded. Each recipient must come from a different region of Canada:
  • Pacific – British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut
  • Prairies – Saskatchewan, Manitoba
  • Atlantic/Quebec – Newfoundland Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec
  • GTA/Golden Horseshoe – Greater Toronto Area to Niagara-on-the-Lake and points in between
  • Ontario (outside of GTA/Golden Horseshoe)

Eligibility

  • Be a Diabetes Canada Professional Section member with membership dues paid for at least the past two years
  • Be a Diabetes Canada Professional Section student member who are currently enrolled in full-time studies OR who have graduated within the past FIVE years with an interest in diabetes management
  • Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant

Note: Members of The Awards Committee and the Co- Chairs of the Awards and Membership Portfolio are not eligible to for nomination.

Nomination process

Requirements

  • Applications must be typed or submitted in electronic format (i.e.: word document or pdf.) on the official form available from the Diabetes Canada website
  • Submit a head shot (high resolution jpgs (300 dpi) and 4 x 6 in size)
  • Successful recipients will be required to write a brief article on what they learned from the Diabetes Canada/CSEM Professional Conference for publication in a future issue of Diabetes Communicator
  • If you received funding to attend the Conference from other sources (such as Chapters, Sponsors, Employers) you must inform the Director of Professional Development at professional.membership@diabetes.ca in order to re-assess your eligibility (Note: This does not mean you will not receive the scholarship)

Note: Recipients of the scholarship cannot reapply for two subsequent years after they receive the award (i.e. recipients are not eligible to receive the award more than once every three years)

Approval process

The decision to grant the award annually is at the discretion of the Awards Committee. The committee reserves the right to not grant the award in any given year if a suitable candidate is not identified. All decisions of the Awards Committee are final and not subject to appeal.

Notification process

The recipient will be notified by the Director of Professional Development in sufficient time so they can arrange to attend the Conference. All applicants will be notified of their application status. Unsuccessful candidates are encouraged to re-submit their application the following year.

Deadline for submission of the application is May 1st of each year.
