Ronald Sigal

Chair – Ronald Sigal MD MPH FRCPC

Dr. Ron Sigal is a Professor of Medicine, Cardiac Sciences, Kinesiology and Community Health Sciences, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Calgary. He is also a Health Senior Scholar with the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research.

Jay Silverberg

Past Chair – Jay Silverberg MD FACP FRCPC

Dr. Silverberg is an Endocrinologist and Affiliate Scientist, Evaluative Clinical Sciences, Schulich Heart Research Program, based at Sunnybrook Heart Research Institute. He is also a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Peter Senior

Vice Chair, Scientific – Peter Senior MBBS PhD

Dr. Peter Senior trained in the UK and is Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of Alberta. He is the Medical Director of the Clinical Islet Transplant Program and leads a program for prevention of diabetic nephropathy in rural communities. He enjoys teaching students, physicians and healthcare professionals. In his spare time, he enjoys walking his dogs and snowboarding (but not at the same time).

Ian Blumer

Vice Chair, Clinical – Ian Blumer MD FRCPC

Dr. Ian Blumer is an internist with a diabetes practice in Durham Region, Ontario. He is the Advisor to the Adult Program of the Charles Best Diabetes Centre. He is also a member of the Endocrine Society where he serves as chair of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Clinical Practice Guideline Task Force. He is the author/co-author of six books, including Diabetes for Canadians for Dummies, and a recently released novel, Unto the Breach, written under his pen name, Sidney Gale.

Dr. Celine Huot is a Pediatric Endocrinologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Montreal.

Harpreet Bajaj

Harpreet Bajaj MD MPH ECNU FACE

Dr. Harpreet Bajaj is an Endocrinologist and an Epidemiologist, affiliated with LMC Diabetes & Endocrinology in Brampton, Ontario. He has co-authored publications in key medical journals in the fields of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular risk assessment. His major interest lies in translational research focused on “real-life” approaches to improve standard of care and clinical practice. Dr. Bajaj enjoys teaching endocrinology fellows, physicians and other healthcare professionals. He volunteers for numerous community programs with the intent of raising public awareness on diabetes prevention and treatment, with a specific focus on the South Asian origin population in Canada. 

Alice Cheng

Alice Cheng MD FRCPC

Dr. Alice Cheng is an Endocrinologist at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga and St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and is the current Chair of the 2013 CDA Clinical Practice Guidelines.  

Julie Anne Gilmour

Brandon Galm (Resident Representative)

Currently pursuing fellowship in Endocrinology in Edmonton (University of Alberta) and completed his Internal Medicine training in Edmonton as well.  He finished his medical school and undergraduate degree in Pharmacology at the University of British Columbia.  His interests include technology and its use in medicine, incorporating medical education, as well as evidence-based medicine and the role of industry in clinical research.

Ronald Goldenberg

Ronald Goldenberg MD FRCPC FACE

Dr. Ronald Goldenberg is a consultant Endocrinologist affiliated with North York General Hospital in Toronto and LMC Endocrinology Centre in Thornhill. His major areas of interest include clinical care of diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia and thyroid disorders. He is a member of the Steering Committee for the 2013 CDA Clinical Practice Guidelines.

Carol Huang

Carol Huang MD PhD

Dr. Carol Huang is a Pediatric Endocrinologist at Alberta Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Calgary. Her research interest is focused on pregnancy as a model to discover new molecular mechanisms that regulate beta cell mass and function.

Brian Rodrigues

Brian Rodrigues PhD

Dr. Brian Rodrigues has a PhD degree in Pharmacology and is a Professor in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia (UBC). He currently serves as a member of all of the major grant review panels including the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and CIHR.

Thomas Ransom

Thomas Ransom MD MSc FRCPC

Dr. Thomas Ransom is a staff Endocrinologist with the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax; and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine. At present, Dr. Ransom is sharing the lead in a Capital Health Obesity Initiative and his research interests in obesity, insulin resistance, in-hospital management of diabetes, and is currently the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program.

Robert A. Screaton

Robert A. Screaton PhD

Dr. Robert Screaton is a Senior Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Screaton is an Islet Biologist and Chair of the Islet Biology and Immunology panel of the Canadian Diabetes Association. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Young Scientist of the Year (2014), the University of Ottawa’s Young Professor Award (2009) and the CHEO Research Institute’s Outstanding New Investigator Award (2009).

Parmjit Sohal

Parmjit Sohal MD PhD CCFP FCFP FACN

Dr. Parmjit Sohal is a Family Physician in Surrey, British Columbia. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. His main area of interest is prevention and management of diabetes, particularly in South Asians. Dr. Sohal has been actively involved with the Canadian Diabetes Association since 2002 and is a recipient of the 2014 Sir Frederick G. Banting Award.

Simon Wing

Simon Wing MD FRCPC

Dr. Simon Wing is an Endocrinologist at the McGill University Health Centre, a Professor of Medicine at McGill University and Director of the Experimental Therapeutics and Metabolism Program at the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute. His research interests are in the role of the ubiquitin proteasome system in metabolism, with a focus on muscle wasting conditions, diabetes and obesity.

Catherine Yu

Catherine Yu MD FRCPC MHSc

Dr. Catherine Yu is a Staff Endocrinologist at St. Michael’s Hospital, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and Associate Scientist in the Keenan Research Centre in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital. She is the Chair of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Dissemination and Implementation Committee, Canadian Diabetes Association.
