In recognition of culturally sensitive educational tools that enhance the commitment to better diabetes care and education.


The Practical Diabetes Resource Award recognizes individuals who have developed a culturally sensitive educational tool for use in their practice.

The Award

Recipients of the Practical Diabetes Resource Award will receive $750 and a commemorative plaque presented to them at the Annual Section meeting as part of the Canadian Diabetes Association Professional Conference in October each year.


  • Be a member of the CDA Professional Section in good standing for a minimum of two years
  • Canadian Citizen or a landed immigrant

Note: Members of the Awards Committee and the Director of Professional Development  are not eligible to apply.

Nomination process


  • Applications must be typed or submitted in electronic format (i.e.: word document or pdf.).
  • Access or a copy of the resource
  • One current copy of the applicant’s curriculum vitae
  • Submit a head shot (high resolution jpgs (300 dpi) and 4 x 6 size)

Letters of recommendation

Applications must include two letters of recommendations from a health-care professional and one from an individual who is familiar with your resource

Approval process

The decision to grant the award annually is at the discretion of the Awards Committee. The committee reserves the right to not grant the award in any given year if a suitable candidate is not identified. All decisions of the Awards Committee are final and not appealable.

Notification process

The Awards Committee will meet to select the successful applicant. All applicants will be notified of their application status.  Unsuccessful candidates are encouraged to re-submit their application for the following year
