This scholarship supports the professional development of five diabetes educators in their specialty practice from across the country. Novo Nordisk Scholarship Awards will be awarded to the selected CDA Professional Section member to attend CDA/CSEM Annual Professional Conference.

Purpose

The Novo Nordisk Conference Scholarships supports the professional development of  diabetes educators in their specialty practice.

The Award

A total of five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded, one from each of the five regions of Canada:
  • Pacific – British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut
  • Prairies – Saskatchewan, Manitoba
  • Atlantic/Quebec – Newfoundland Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec
  • Ontario (Rural)
  • GTA/Golden Horseshoe – Greater Toronto Area to Niagara-on-the-Lake and points in between

Eligibility

  • Be a member of the CDA Professional Section in good standing for a minimum of two years
  • Canadian Citizen or landed immigrant
  • Members of the award committee must withdraw from reviewing these awards if they choose to submit an application. 

Note: Members of the Awards Committee and the Director of Professional Development are not eligible to apply.

Nomination process

Requirements

  • Applications must be typed or submitted in electronic format (i.e.: word document or pdf.).
  • Submit a head shot (high resolution jpgs (300 dpi) and 4 x 6 size)
  • Successful recipients will be required to write a brief article from the Canadian Diabetes Association Professional Conference for publication in a future issue of Diabetes Communicator
  • If you received funding to attend the annual CDA conference from other sources (such as Chapters, Sponsors, Employers) you must inform the Director of Professional Development at professional.membership@diabetes.ca in order to re-assess your eligibility (Note: This does not mean you will not receive the scholarship)

Note: Recipients of the scholarship cannot apply for two subsequent years after they receive the award (i.e. recipients are not eligible to receive the award more than once every three years)

Approval process

The decision to grant the award annually is at the discretion of the Awards Committee. The committee reserves the right to not grant the award in any given year if a suitable candidate is not identified. All decisions of the Awards Committee are final and not appealable.

Notification process

The recipient will be notified by the Director of Professional Development in sufficient time so they can arrange to attend the presentation ceremony at the Annual CDA/CSEM Professional Conference.  All applicants will be notified of their application status.  Unsuccessful candidates are encouraged to re-submit their application for the following year
