According to Statistics Canada, Canadians spend four per cent of every dollar earned on clothing. Over time, these purchases lose their fit, both literally and aesthetically, which can lead to clutter in your closet.
Take the #3lbChallenge and you could win one of our weekly $500 VISA Gift Card prizes, or the Grand Prize of a $5,000 travel voucher from McTavish Travel.
Joining the contest is easy – between August 17 and October 12, 2015, collect three pounds of clothing (an average grocery bag), take a picture, and share it on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #3lbChallenge. Then, find a Clothesline Drop Box using our website or mobile app and drop off your clothes. It’s that easy – and for every clothes drop you share using the #3lbChallenge hashtag, you’ll be entered for a chance to win!
Every pound of clothing you give to Clothesline turns into real dollars that make a difference. 100% of net proceeds raised by Clothesline directly support the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and help to fund diabetes research, programs, education, and advocacy initiatives for the more than 10 million Canadians with diabetes or pre diabetes – including D-Camps, the only national camping program for children and youth with type 1 diabetes.
Scratching your head to find clothes to give away? Want to keep your giving fresh and fun? Participate using our fun theme weeks:
Week 1 (August 17-24, 2015): Canadiana. We want your Canadian tuxedoes (jeans and denim jackets), plaid shirts and your leftover Canada Day gear.
Week 2 (August 24-31, 2015): Memorabilia. No longer wearing the Myrtle Beach t-shirt that Aunt Jane gave you? Give it to the #3lbChallenge. We’re looking for your sports jerseys, travel memorabilia, and even that sun hat you bought in Mexico.
Week 3 (August 31-September 7, 2015): Back to School, Back to Work. Did your kids grow out of last year’s school clothes? Give the old ones to the #3lbChallenge. We want backpacks, school uniforms, last year’s trends, business suits, power suits, overalls, steel toed boots and any other gently used workplace wear you’re not using anymore.
Week 4 (September 7-14, 2015): Fitness. Keep giving and have fun! We want your tank tops, gym shorts, yoga pants, running shoes, etc. If they’re gently used and taking up space, give your closet a cleanse and give them to the #3lbChallenge.
Week 5 (September 14-21, 2015): Tiny Tots. Your little munchkin is growing out of their clothes faster than you can say “happy birthday!” We want your baby/toddler clothes, shoes and accessories. Your little one isn’t wearing them anymore – give those gently used clothes to the #3lbChallenge.
Week 6 (September 21-28, 2015): Retro. What’s old may be new again but your bellbottoms, acid wash, leather jackets and flannel are taking up valuable closet space. Take a trip through the decades and then give your gently used retro wear to the #3lbChallenge.
Week 7 (September 28-October 5, 2015): Winter Chill. It may only be fall but the winter chill is coming soon. Give your hats, mitts, toques, jackets, snow pants and parkas to the #3lbChallenge and you could win.
Week 8 (October 5-12, 2015): Spooktacular! Halloween is on the horizon. Clean out your trunk by giving your old Halloween costumes and masks to the #3lbChallenge.
