Quitting Smoking

Why?

Smoking doubles the risk of heart disease and is a deadly habit for everyone. But for those with diabetes, it is a real killer, drastically raising the already high risk of heart disease and stroke.

If you have diabetes and smoke, you are three times more likely to die of heart attack or stroke than people with diabetes who do not smoke.

Make it easier on yourself

Quitting smoking is probably the single most effective thing you can do to improve your health and cut your risk of cardiovascular disease. In fact, your health will start to improve as soon as you quit.

Although quitting is always a challenge, there are aids, programs and support groups that can make it a little easier. Do better: kick the habit. Talk to your doctor about finding a method that will work best for you.
