About the Campaign

Our spokespeopleLearn about our campaign spokespeople, Ross, Jung-Yul and Diana.

In Canada, 2.4 million people live with diabetes. 4 out of 5 will die of heart disease.

This will be an enormous price for Canada, impacting on the economy and on our healthcare system, and forever changing the lives of millions of individuals and their families.

Reasons for the increase

  • Aging baby boomer population
  • 77% of new Canadians are from populations at high risk for diabetes
  • Increasing obesity, which contributes to diabetes

We know that early diagnosis and good diabetes management can significantly cut the risk of heart disease for these individuals. That is why we must work together to reverse the trend.

Now – before it is too late.

  • People with diabetes can do better about cutting their risk of heart disease. They must take steps to reverse the trend.
  • People at high risk for diabetes can do better about diabetes prevention.
  • All Canadians must work on reversing the diabetes and heart disease trend.

This November, the Canadian Diabetes Association is urging Canadians to reverse the trend by raising awareness of the connection with heart disease.

The campaign message: Today, 1 in 5 people with diabetes survives heart disease. We can all do better. Reverse the trend.

Early diagnosis and good diabetes management can help reduce the risk.
