Clothesline®

Giving is Always in Style

imageThis is the 25th anniversary of the Clothesline® program in Canada.  We accept reusable clothing donations and small household items (furniture in some locations). Individuals can call 1-800-505-5525 to schedule a free pick-up and donate right from the convenience of their home.  This is your opportunity to help both the Association and the environment.  Last year, Clothesline® diverted more than 41 million kilograms of clothing and household items from our landfills.  This translates into a savings of 766 million kWh of energy while reducing the carbon footprint of our donors by 105 million kilograms of CO2 emissions.

The Canadian Diabetes Association wants you to know that small lifestyle changes make a big difference.  As many as 9 million Canadians live with diabetes today - 3 million with diabetes and 6 million with prediabetes. The Association is helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure.

The Association raises funds in support of our mission to lead the fight against diabetes.  We help people living with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure. Through our activities, we are also making a difference with the environment. It is our belief that items which are reusable should be recycled rather than added to Canadian landfills.  We know that everyone is not in the position to make a cash donation, that is why donating clothing and cell phones is a practical and cost-effective way to assist the Association with the added bonus of decreasing the burden on our environment,” said Janelle Robertson, Director of Business Operations with the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The Association also accepts cell phones and PDA’s through its Project Redial program, your used printer cartridges through its Diabetes Recycle Ink program and your used cars through the Retire Your Ride program (operated by the Clean Air Foundation).  The Project Redial® program is excited to be aligned with GEEP Inc. in 2008, which recycles all of the Association’s donated cell phones and PDA’s.  This collaboration facilitates our overall goal of further integrating with an e-waste recycling mandate and overall green positioning.

Individuals can donate their cell phones, PDA’s and printer cartridges by calling 1-800-505-5525.  Clothing donations can also be made at any one of the Association’s red donation boxes located in communities across Canada (please visit diabetes.ca to find a box near you).
