Financial Support
If you do not have health plan coverage and/or have a low income, you should contact the following to see if you qualify for assistance to manage your diabetes.
There are three types of provincial government pharmacare plans currently in place that could provide coverage or partial coverage for diabetes medications and supplies to those who qualify: the Seniors’ Pharmacare Program, the Family Pharmacare Plan and the Department of Community Services Pharmacare Benefits.
Nova Scotia Family Pharmacare is a provincial drug plan designed to help Nova Scotians with the cost of prescription drugs. The program offers protection against drug costs for families who have no drug coverage; or, if the cost of the prescription drugs becomes a financial burden to them.
The program is available to all Nova Scotians with a valid health card and there is no premium or fee to join the program. The annual out-of-pocket cost is capped at a percentage of family income.
