Yukon MP running for Diabetes in Victoria Marathon
(Victoria, October 5, 2012) The Honourable Ryan Leef, Member of Parliament for the Yukon, will be lacing up and running with Team Diabetes in the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon on Sunday, October 7th.
As an MP, Mr. Leef has seen first-hand the serious impact diabetes can have on individuals and communities in the Yukon and across the country. This experience has compelled him to take action and make a difference for the 9 million Canadians living with diabetes and prediabetes. The Canadian Diabetes Association is thrilled that he has committed his valuable time and effort to help raise funds and awareness for this important cause.
“Running provides us that moment in time where we can forget our worries, solve problems, find peace and overcome the greatest of challengers...ourselves. When we finish a test like a marathon we are better for it. In running for Team Diabetes, I run for a far greater cause and a far greater purpose, one I hope we will all be better for.”
Mr. Leef’s active lifestyle has prepared him well to tackle the marathon distance this weekend. He is an accomplished marathon runner and has represented Canada as a member of the National Team in the 10,000 metre in addition to the IAAF World and North American Mountain Running Championships.
Team Diabetes isn’t just for accomplished athletes though. Like Mr. Leef, you just need to be willing to make a commitment and be prepared for the positive impact it will have on your life and the lives of those around you. With a variety of distance options and destinations to choose from, there is something for everyone.
Challenge yourself. You CAN do it! For more information on Team Diabetes events across Canada and around the world, please visit http://www.teamdiabetes.ca.
