The winning Live Right Now community will receive a legacy prize that will last for generations

March 6, 2012 – In 2011, Live Right Now inspired Canadians to live healthier lives - and it worked! Canadians were challenged to participate in the Million Pound Challenge and lose one-million collective pounds in six months - that goal was shattered by Canadians pledging more than 1,600,000 pounds!

On the heels of this incredible accomplishment, CBC, together with Radio-Canada, is looking for the Canadian community that most embodies the spirit of Live Right Now: a community where residents are motivated and supported to make healthier choices.

Because the health of Canadians is directly linked to the time we spend outside and connected to nature, three organizations have come together to offer the winning community a reward that will last for generations. The Canadian Wildlife Federation has teamed up with Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds and Parks Canada to award the leading Live Right Now community with a natural playground. Valued at more than $100,000, the custom designed and community built natural playground will reflect the natural heritage of the nearest national park and Parks Canada will help the winning community experience the national park nearest to them. This free natural playground will be designed with the winning community to meet their needs. Hewn from the trees, earth, and bedrock found across Canada, the natural playground will be a refuge for Canadian wildlife and a haven for children and neighbours to gather and play.

“Building partnerships like this one is exactly what we envisioned when we first launched Live Right Now a year ago,” said Jennifer Dettman, head of Factual Entertainment, CBC. “Together we are mobilizing leadership at all levels to educate, inspire and motivate Canadians to change the health of our country.”

“A natural playground is the ideal reward for the winning community of Live Right Now. The perfect urban embodiment of healthy lifestyle, community spirit, and connection to nature, we are proud to be a part of a legacy that will contribute to the health of Canadians for years to come,” said Adam Bienenstock, Founder and CEO of Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds.

“A major part of CWF’s conservation mission is educating Canadians; but the greatest goal is for people to actually explore the outdoors and find the true value of our wildlife-rich land,” said Wade Luzny, Canadian Wildlife Federation Executive Vice-President and CEO. “The natural playground will unite people in their love of the outdoors and ignite that spark to want to get out and discover more. What a perfect way to celebrate the Canadian Wildlife Federation 50th Anniversary of connecting Canadians to wildlife.”

“Canada’s national parks are ideal places for Canadians to get active and to connect with nature,” said Alan Latourelle, CEO Parks Canada. “Parks Canada is pleased to be part of this effort to help Canadians get healthier and build a deeper and long-term connection with our natural heritage.”

To compete for the LIVE RIGHT NOW CAPITAL OF CANADA crown, residents need to rally behind their communities and track all the ways they make healthy choices using a specially designed Facebook App at LiveRightNow.ca. The winner will be announced and featured on CBC’s STEVEN AND CHRIS and Radio Canada’s C’EST CA LA VIE on April 13, 2012!

CBC is proud to work with Canada’s leading national health and wellness organizations on the Live Right Now Advisory Board to provide Canadians with health information, support and inspiration they can trust: Active for Life, Breakfast for Learning, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Obesity Network, Dietitians of Canada, Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, ParticipACTION, YMCA Canada and our magazine partner, Canadian Living.
