LCBO stores support Canadian Diabetes Association once again
ONTARIO (January 27, 2009) - Starting February 1, the public can once again help support the Canadian Diabetes Association by making a donation at any of the 605 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for the Association will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until February 28.
In 2008, LCBO stores supported the Canadian Diabetes Association for the month of October and raised over $9,100 to help fund diabetes research, education, services and advocacy.
“Diabetes continues to be an epidemic in Canada. In Ontario alone, over 900,000 individuals have diabetes and this figure is expected to increase to 1.2 million by 2010. We appreciate the support we receive from the LCBO, its employees and especially its customers,” says Gary O’Connor, Executive Director, Ontario, Canadian Diabetes Association. “The LCBO’s province-wide store network is a very effective way for us to raise awareness and funds to carry out the work we do.”
“We are pleased to partner with the Canadian Diabetes Association for a second year,” says LCBO President and CEO Bob Peter. “LCBO’s customers and staff have always responded generously to worthy causes, and we appreciate whatever they can give to help their fellow Ontarians.”
The Canadian Diabetes Association is one of 26 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from the LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2009. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are raised annually through LCBO’s in-store donation box program. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.345 billion in fiscal 2007-08, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
“The Canadian Diabetes Association thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store during the month of February,” says O’Connor.
