LCBO stores raise funds for Canadian Diabetes Association

ONTARIO (September 2008) - Starting October 1, the public can make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association at over 600 LCBO stores throughout Ontario.  Donation boxes for the Association will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until October 31.

Diabetes is an epidemic in Canada today.  In Ontario alone, over 900,000 individuals have diabetes and this number is expected to increase to 1.2 million by 2010.  Chances are you know someone with diabetes.  By contributing to the LCBO coin box program this October, you’ll be helping to fund diabetes research, education, service and advocacy.

“We thank the LCBO, its employees and customers for providing this opportunity.  The LCBO’s province-wide store network is a very effective way for us to raise awareness and funds for the Association,” says Gary O’Connor, Executive Director, Ontario, Canadian Diabetes Association.

“We are pleased to partner with the Canadian Diabetes Association,” says LCBO Chair Philip J. Olsson. “LCBO’s customers have always responded generously to worthy causes, and we thank the Association for providing a positive change in so many people’s lives.”

The Canadian Diabetes Association is one of 26 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from the LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2008. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are raised annually through LCBO’s in-store donation box program. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.275 billion in fiscal 2006-07, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including healthcare and education.

The Canadian Diabetes Association thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store during the month of October.
