Vancouver, BC (February 17, 2011) – Johanna Ward, Shaw Cable’s The Express TV host has signed up to be the media champion for the Team Diabetes Reykjavik, Iceland marathon on August 20, 2011.  “I was looking for a give-back project to do in partnership with my work as a TV host at Shaw. Team Diabetes is so appealing because the cause is so close to my heart. My older sister, Tiffany has type 1 diabetes. I’m running for her,” Ward said. “I also have an Icelandic heritage and I have always wanted to see the country of my grandfather’s birth,” she added.

“We’re excited that Johanna Ward and Shaw TV’s The Express has decided to support Team Diabetes’ Reykjavik, Iceland marathon this summer,” said Fred DeFina, Director Team Diabetes. “It is through these kinds of media partnerships that enable us as an Association to widely promote a healthy and active lifestyle and advocate for the 9 million Canadians with diabetes or prediabetes,” DeFina added.

Johanna Ward grew up on Vancouver Island, where her family still lives. She previously co-hosted GO! Magazine on Chek TV. As the host of Shaw TV’s lifestyle magazine program, The Express, Johanna admits that she may arguably have the best gig in town. “The Express is all about what makes Metro Vancouver amazing! The people, the places, and the purpose - It’s a show that makes you feel good,” she enthused.

Johanna also teaches dance-fitness classes at the YWCA in Vancouver and at the Richmond Oval. In her free time she likes to do yoga, drink wine, watch cheesy TV and spend time with her friends and family.
