Canadian Diabetes Association presents Outstanding National Corporate Award to Cameco Corporation
SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN (October 31, 2012) - The Canadian Diabetes Association has presented Cameco Corporation with the 2012 Outstanding National Corporate Award. This prestigious national award recognizes an especially creative and supportive relationship between the Association and a major corporate partner.
Cameco is one of the world's largest uranium producers. Cameco is a large employer in northern Saskatchewan communities and invests in health initiatives that will increase the quality of life and the health of their current and future work forces.
Cameco was presented with the Outstanding National Corporate Award in recognition of their commitment to improving health in Northern Saskatchewan. In 2010, Cameco provided $50,000 for the purchase and outfitting of a sport utility vehicle to facilitate the Association's access to northern Saskatchewan roads to deliver their Travelling Diabetes Resource Program. During the last two years, Cameco has also provided transportation, accommodation and onsite assistance for Association team members delivering diabetes education and risk assessments in northern Saskatchewan.
"The Canadian Diabetes Association has benefitted from the financial support of Cameco for many years and they are most deserving of the 2012 Outstanding National Corporate Award," said Warren Wagner, Regional Director, Canadian Diabetes Association, Saskatchewan. "Cameco has shown their commitment to doing what is needed to ease the Association's entry into northern and remote Saskatchewan and have helped us to establish vital contacts. They have demonstrated their desire to make a very real positive impact on the communities in which they work."
"The Canadian Diabetes Association is thrilled to formally acknowledge the outstanding work of our volunteers and supporters through our national awards program," said Michael Cloutier, President & CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association. "Cameco Corporation has demonstrated a true dedication to making a difference in the lives of the more than nine million Canadians who are living with diabetes or prediabetes. On behalf of the Association, I'd like to congratulate Cameco for their tremendous contributions and express our sincere appreciation for all those who were nominated."
Cameco was recognized at the Association's National Awards Presentation recently held in Vancouver. The event is held in conjunction with the Canadian Diabetes Association's Professional Conference and National Annual General Meeting. The 15th Annual Canadian Diabetes Association and Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism Professional Conference brings together more than 2,500 leading diabetes clinicians, researchers and educators from across Canada and around the world to share their knowledge, ideas and experiences on diabetes.
The conference serves as an important opportunity to collaborate and share the latest ground-breaking research aimed at helping those with diabetes to live healthier lives while the Association and researchers they fund continue to work towards finding a cure.
