Canadian Diabetes Association presents National Young Volunteer Award to Tristan Banyay
SASKATOON , SASKATCHEWAN (October 31, 2012) - The Canadian Diabetes Association has presented Tristan Banyay of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with the 2012 National Young Volunteer Award. This prestigious national award recognizes the work of a young person up to the age of 29 who has significantly contributed to the Association's mission of leading the fight against diabetes by helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure.
At eighteen years of age, Tristan Banyay is already very involved in his local community, volunteering with numerous organizations including the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Young NDP and Youth Launch: Youth Facilitation Leadership Program.
Mr. Banyay was presented with the 2012 National Young Volunteer Award in recognition of his many contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association programs including children and family camps in Saskatchewan, as well as his role and voice in the Association's advocacy and fundraising efforts. He has volunteered at diabetes camps since 2010 as a counselor and mentor and actively participates in camp planning. Tristan has also taken on a significant role in the Association's Saskatchewan Advocacy Committee and frequently serves as a spokesperson, sharing his story in support of other young people with diabetes.
"Tristan is a true role model and very worthy of the 2012 National Young Volunteer Award. He is constantly attending diabetes events, meeting with children and adults, sharing his experiences and supporting others." said Leah Domoney, Public Programs and Services Coordinator for the Canadian Diabetes Association in Saskatchewan. "Tristan's positive attitude pervades everything he does. He is a young man with rare personal skills and courage, which he uses to help others."
"The Canadian Diabetes Association is thrilled to formally acknowledge the outstanding work of our volunteers and supporters through our national awards program. They are critical to the success of our mission delivery," said Michael Cloutier, President and CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association. "Tristan Banyay has demonstrated a true dedication to making a difference in the lives of the more than nine million Canadians who are living with diabetes or prediabetes. On behalf of the Association, I'd like to congratulate Tristan for his tremendous contributions and express our sincere appreciation for all those who were nominated."
Mr. Banyay was recognized at the Association's National Awards Presentation recently held in Vancouver. The event is held in conjunction with the Canadian Diabetes Association's Professional Conference and National Annual General Meeting. The 15th Annual Canadian Diabetes Association and Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism Professional Conference brings together more than 2,500 leading diabetes clinicians, researchers and educators from across Canada and around the world to share their knowledge, ideas and experiences on diabetes.
The conference serves as an important opportunity to collaborate and share the latest ground-breaking research aimed at helping those with diabetes to live healthier lives while the Association and researchers they fund, continue to work towards finding a cure.
