Baubles for Banting Fundraising Gala Rocks Vancouver
Vancouver, British Columbia (October, 18,2011) – The first ever Baubles for Banting Fundraising Gala held at the flagship store of Birks downtown on September 29, 2011 successfully raised over $100,000 for the Canadian Diabetes Association. The organizing committee led by Dr. Dennis Magrega of Medisys Health Corporation, Shelley Johnson of SLJ Productions Inc. and fundraising committee honourary chair person Rusty Goepel of TELUS Corporation brought together Lower Mainland doctors, researchers, lawyers, business professionals and concerned citizens dedicated to supporting to people living with diabetes and finding a cure. A stunning 1.64 carat necklace as a draw prize was a much anticipated highlight of the night along with a fashion show from the Malene Grotrian Fall/Winter couture collection, upbeat tunes from the Hot Wax Mobile Music and delicious appys from the C Restaurant to match the eye candies on auction. Thrilling auction prizes included a 2011 Grey Cup VIP package; a golf trip to Palm Springs with Rusty Goepel and Ken Woods, chairman of the 2011 Golf Open; 7 nights at a luxurious 8,000 sq ft villa of Casa Piazza in the exclusive gated ocean front community of La Punta, Mexico; and a fabulous couple’s escape package that included a two-night stay at the Sparkling Hills Resort in Vernon, BC.
The event was presented by Medisys Corporate Health with sapphire sponsorship from Baja Mining, PwC, Raymond James, RBC, Rogers Financial Group and Teck, and emerald sponsorship from TELUS, Aim Medical Imaging, Yellow Point Equity Partners and Sirona Biochem Corporation. Birks generously donated the wonderful venue and the breathtaking draw prize.
Honourable Wally Oppal, Q.C. and CityTV’s Dawn Chubai were the evening’s Masters of the Ceremony. Michael Cloutier, President and CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association, attended the event together with Fred De Fina, Director, Corporate Development & Team Diabetes; Donna Van Walleghem, Regional Director Vancouver Coastal; Tom Awrey, Regional Director Fraser Valley and Charlotte Lawson, Director of Fund Development.
