Association applauds government’s commitment to support Canadian families
New community-based projects funded to assist people living with diabetes
OTTAWA, ONTARIO (November 1, 2011) – Today, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health, announced that through the Canadian Diabetes Strategy, the federal government will support 37 new community-based projects.
“The Canadian Diabetes Association congratulates the Government of Canada on its decision to provide funding for new community-based diabetes projects from across Canada,” said Michael Cloutier, President and CEO of the Canadian Diabetes Association. “By enhancing Canada’s ability to detect and manage diabetes throughout the country, these projects will play a pivotal role in mitigating the impact of diabetes on Canadians living with the disease, and on our healthcare system as a whole.”
As part of this commitment to diabetes in Canada, the Canadian Diabetes Association is proud to partner with the Government of Canada on two particular projects:
1. The transformation of the Association’s Clinical Practice Guidelines into practical tools for Canadians living with type 2 diabetes to ensure optimal self-management of the disease by people living with diabetes and the healthcare providers who work with them; and
2. the development of a Hispanic-specific nutrition tool.
These projects recognize the diversity of Canadians living with the disease and reflect the Association’s shared commitment to placing their needs at the forefront of diabetes prevention and management initiatives within the country.
“We look forward to continued collaboration with the Government of Canada, as we strive to support people living with diabetes, while we work to find a cure,” added Cloutier.
