WINNIPEG, November 25, 2009—The Canadian Diabetes Association (Manitoba & Nunavut) is pleased to announce that Manitoba RCMP Officer Marge Hudson, now a confirmed participant of the Team Diabetes program - will fundraise for the Association and train for the July 2010 Rio de Janeiro marathon.

Hudson - an Aboriginal officer based out of Headingley and connecting with various First Nations communities throughout Manitoba - lost a remarkable amount of weight, shaped up her life, and got her diabetes under control; she continues to be an inspiration to various First Nations communities around the province. Ever-active and committed to her health, Husdon advocates diabetes management through positive lifestyle choices.

According to the Team Diabetes Coordinator, Kelvin Hollender, this story is motivating on many levels: “Diabetes is a concern for diverse populations, including the Aboriginal community – Marge’s inspiring journey to health and her strong connection to the Aboriginal communities in Manitoba is a great motivator for wellness and diabetes management and for people of any age wanting to join Team Diabetes; Marge is in her 50s and she’s amazing!”

Hollender adds that counting Marge among his Team Diabetes participants could be very powerful encouragement for others wanting to get fit, have fun and give back to their community.

In the coming weeks, Hudson will receive an award for 30 years of service with the RCMP, take part in a photo shoot for an upcoming issue of the fitness magazine Oxygen, and is planning to launch a fun challenge among her fellow female officers – taking on the RCMP’s fitness exam.
