Camp Douwanna: Leadership Training Program (Newfoundland Labrador)

2012 Camp Application Process

The Leadership Training (LIT) Program is a two week program that has been developed to challenge teens between the age of 16 and 17. Participants in the LIT program are able to experience tremendous personal growth opportunities in a supportive, dynamic environment that offers a host of fun and challenging outdoor leadership experiences.

The LIT program uses modular training techniques to encourage participants to learn a variety of skills in several activity streams.  This combination enables the participants to realize their own potential, and focus on learning essential leadership and independence skills that will become valuable on their journey towards adulthood. During the second week of the LIT program further emphasis will be place on teambuilding, goal-setting, communication and leadership skills. This program offers a community based approach to leadership. Participants will be able to apply skills to community and camps. It is a chance for learning and experiencing counseling, and program development. Participants will be spending time in pods in a mentorship style approach working with their LIT director and the camp counsellors.

Please Note: All applicants will go through an interview process before being accepted.  Also participants are required to attend both Sessions of Camp Douwanna. The program can accommodate youth with special dietary needs (i.e. celiac disease) and is also peanut free.

Selection Process
Applicants must be 16 or 17 years of age; this is a highly competitive program and so the application process is essential.

· 30% for letter of intent and the application

· 10% personal references and staff recommendations

All applicants will receive and interview that will be conducted by the Leadership in Training Director and the Camp Director. Why 3 Prices?
We recognize our families have different abilities to pay and we feel it is important that we begin to communicate the true cost of camp to our camper families. In order to continue the camping services we provide for children living with type 1 diabetes in Newfoundland and Labrador, we need to take a more proactive approach in how we manage our subsidies. We hope to do this with the voluntary 3-tiered pricing program. Please take a moment to look at the rate descriptions and determine which of these three prices your family is able to pay for your child’s experience.

This is strictly an honour system; select & pay the fee you feel is appropriate. The program is voluntary, and in no way influences the experience a child will receive at camp. Please note that additional financial assistance with camp fees (if you are unable to pay the Tier 3) is still available via application for campership, however funds are limited.

Application Process
