Join Team Diabetes in the Land of Fire and Ice!

Team Diabetes is excited to offer our fourth “Conquer” destination with The Walking Connection! Conquer the Crater is a spectacular one day hike that will offer participants an amazing challenge off the beaten track. Iceland’s dramatic and unique landscape will provide a once in a lifetime hiking experience that you will not forget!

All of the hike options will follow the same trail and are an out and back route. Participants will be transported to the starting point via specialized tundra vehicles. All start out in a very old glacial canyon and, regardless of which distance you choose, all will experience incredible views and unique geography. Those on the 6K hike will walk through the canyon up to a stunning waterfall before returning to the start point. The 14K hikers will continue on up an escarpment and along a plateau, offering additional views and challenges. Those on the 24K hike will continue on the final ascent to two craters before turning back.

As with all Team Diabetes hikes, team members will be grouped according to abilities and lead by experienced, certified mountain guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment while on the trail.

Hike participants will be based in Reykjavik along with the marathon participants. The world’s most northern capital city, Reykjavik is clean, crisp and refreshingly distinct. It is also one of the liveliest, sophisticated and modern cities on earth. Reykjavik is a great base to further explore the diversity of Iceland’s natural features including glaciers, hot springs, geysers, active volcanoes, fjords and vast lava deserts.
