Further Coverage in Manitoba’s Pharmacare Program for People with Diabetes

Winnipeg, MB (September 22, 2008) – The Canadian Diabetes Association applauds the government of Manitoba for increasing access to newer medications for Manitobans living with diabetes.  The decision to include insulin glargine, also known by the trade name Lantus, on the provincial formulary provides an option for people with diabetes for whom other insulin treatments have not been effective in controlling blood glucose to recommended targets.

Learning Series, Cellbertons and Growing up Well Presenters

Help educate children, youth and adults about diabetes by making awareness presentations to various groups.
Note: Volunteers in this role should be relatively comfortable speaking in front of groups.

Display Volunteers

(Mostly Daytime)
Represent the Canadian Diabetes Association by handing out awareness information at health fairs and displays.

Fund Development

Help make a difference. Work with the Fund Development team to develop and implement fundraising initiatives. Positions available include:

  • Residential Campaign
  • Team Diabetes Promoter
  • Corporate Development Assistant
  • Third Party Events
  • In Memoriam

Note: Some fundraising or marketing experience is an asset but not required.

Manitoba Pharmacare Program

In April 2004, Health Minister David Chomiak announced a plan for Manitoba’s Pharmacare Program, Pharmacare: A Program for Today and Tomorrow.  In a news release issued by the Province of Manitoba, new strategies were identified in the plan to contain rising drug costs.
