Following her daughter Cassandra’s type 1 diabetes diagnosis at age 5 - and in response to a lack of books on the topic –Rachelle Smith decided to write her own children books about the disease. And on Monday Jun 20 2011, at Art Alcove in Saskatoon, Rachelle launched her fourth book: Katie is Not Alone: A Collection of Short Stories about Diabetes - Illustrated by Cassandra Smith and Madison Neu.

This latest offering showcases stories about people living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, showing the challenges diabetics face as children, teens, adults and seniors, and recognizes their outstanding accomplishments while living with diabetes.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
