Manitoba Pharmacare Program

In April 2004, Health Minister David Chomiak announced a plan for Manitoba’s Pharmacare Program, Pharmacare: A Program for Today and Tomorrow.  In a news release issued by the Province of Manitoba, new strategies were identified in the plan to contain rising drug costs.

As a Manitoban living with diabetes, how has Pharmacare: A Program for Today and Tomorrow affected you?  If this plan has made an impact on the way you manage diabetes, we would like to know.  Please drop us a line at

The Canadian Diabetes Association believes that people with diabetes should have timely access to medication, supplies and medical devices that can improve their immediate quality of life and that may decrease the likelihood of future interventions which are often more costly and less effective.

As well, federal, provincial and territorial governments should commit to a strategy such that the cost to the individual of diabetes medication, supplies and medical devices, as well as the costs associated with diabetes-related complications, are not a barrier or a burden to managing the disease.
