2012 Research Competition
Operating Grant Competition - CLOSED
The Canadian Diabetes Association invites operating grant applications for diabetes-related research. All registrations and applications are to be submitted online through ResearchNet. Complete applications are due February 1, 2012 by 20:00 hrs EST (8:00 PM EST).
ELIGIBILITY
The Nominated Principal Applicant (i.e. Principal Investigator) must be an independent researcher. The Principal Investigator and Co-Applicant (s) [i.e. Co-Investigator(s)] must have an academic or research appointment with an eligible Canadian Institution. See the Operating Grant guide for more information.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply for an operating grant, you will need a:
1. CDA PIN
2. ResearchNet account
CDA PIN
A CDA PIN is required for the Nominated Principal Applicant and for each Co-Applicant.
Please note that registration is closed for the 2012 competition, co-applicants can still be added in the application phase. Co-applicants can apply for a CDA PIN until January 20, 2012. Co-applicants need to provide the Nominated Principal Applicant their CDA PINs for validation in ResearchNet.
Note: CDA PINs are no longer available for co-applicants.
Please Note:
- A CDA PIN is required for you to submit your registration and application.
- It takes 48 hours for your PIN to be processed by CDA staff. Then you can validate your PIN in ResearchNet. Ensure you apply early to meet registration submission deadlines.
ResearchNet
ResearchNet is a secure internet portal which allows the applicant to electronically submit grant registrations and applications and obtain funding-related information. You must have a ResearchNet account to apply for a CDA Operating Grant. To register for a ResearchNet account, please go to: https://www.researchnet-recherchenet.ca.

Operating Grant registration form must be submitted online using ResearchNet by 20:00 hrs (EST) December 5th, 2011.
This registration phase will assist CDA in organizing the appropriate review panel. This is a mandatory step in the Operating Grant application process. If the registration form is not received by the deadline date, your application will not be processed.

NEW - American Diabetes Association/Canadian Diabetes Association Joint Post-Doctoral Fellowship:
The American Diabetes Association and the Canadian Diabetes Association initiated a joint partnership in support of a Post-Doctoral fellowship. Applications from Post-Doctoral candidate in the US intending to train in Canada will be solicited. As well, Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada intending to go the US for training will be considered. Applications will be received and reviewed by the CDA Personnel Award Committee. For more details, please see Personnel Awards Guide section 7.3 Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award.

How To Apply
Applications must be submitted in electronic format only using the PDF fillable form. Please submit only ONE application. If more than one application is submitted, the first application will be included in the 2012 competition and subsequent submissions will be deleted. Applications must be completed and submitted electronically to CDA by Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Any applications submitted after 20:00 hrs EST (8:00 PM EST) on February 1, 2012 will not be included in the 2012 competition.
Please note the page limits on the application form. Should the page limits not be adhered to the application will be administratively removed from the competition.
Note on Application forms:
Postdoctoral fellowship and Doctoral Student Awards: Research Proposal – there is a limit of 3 pages total, 2 pages for the proposal and 1 page for the tables, charts, references, etc.
Clinician Scientist and Scholar Awards: Research Proposal – there is a limit of 8 pages total, 5 pages for the proposal and 3 pages for the tables, charts, references, etc.
Common CV
Completed applications must include the CDA Common CV which is available at http://www.ccv-cvc.ca. Any contributions and publications should be attached to the CDA Common CV. Proposed supervisor and co-supervisor (if applicable) Common CV(s), contributions and publications must also be submitted for Postdoctoral Fellowship and Doctoral Student Research award applications.
Referee Assessments
Three referee assessments must be sent by the referee electronically to Myrtella Hodge at by February 1, 2012.
For Postdoctoral fellowship and Doctoral Student Award applications, one referee assessment must be from the proposed supervisor. Referee assessments sent by the applicant will not be accepted. Please note, the referee assessment form will only be accepted in PDF format and it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure referees have submitted their assessment forms by the deadline date of February 1, 2012 no later than 20:00 hrs EST (8:00 PM EST). Late submissions will be not accepted.
Transcripts
Doctoral Student Research Award applications require original transcripts (or authorized photocopy) for each post-secondary institution attended. Transcripts must be couriered (next day/overnight delivery) on or before February 1, 2012. Couriered transcripts arriving after February 2nd will not be accepted.
