DES Goal - Research
To promote research related to the practice of diabetes education and to support innovation and creativity.
- A key project of the DES Research Resource Development Committee was the development of the mentorship program. The mentorship program was developed to provide guidance and support to diabetes educators interested in conducting practice-based research. Members applying for mentorship will be teamed with an experienced researcher for advice and guidance on the research process.
- The first CDA grants for Applied Research in Diabetes Education, Management and Care were awarded in 1997.
- Research Works A self-directed learning module package has been developed. This program assists DES members who are interested in learning about research. The manual is a series of modules which guide a novice researcher through all the steps involved in research from choosing the research question, to selecting the research method, to collecting, interpreting, and presenting the results. Research Works is a ‘how to’ manual on conducting practice-based research.
