DES Goal - Advocacy

To proactively influence and shape policies regarding the practice of Diabetes Educators.

To lobby for effective representation by DES in decision-making bodies that develop/effect policies related to the practice of diabetes educators.

  • DES continues to have representation on all CDA Councils and Committees. The DES Chairperson has a designated position on the National Board of the CDA.

To build the reputation of DES as an authority in diabetes education.

  • Several DES members were actively involved with C&SS in the development and implementation of the evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines.
  • The Portfolio for Diabetes Education Services, Self Assessment and Recognition Program is under revision.

The Diabetes Education Awareness campaign continues to be an avenue to promote diabetes education services. Chapters and members are encouraged to use the tools developed throughout the year but especially in November. Working together with Branches is one way to make the message stronger.
