Association’s Clinical Practice Guidelines Rank Among World’s Best

In January 2012, the Annals of Internal Medicine published a paper by the Johns Hopkins University Evidence-Based Practice Review Center that concluded that the Canadian Diabetes Association 2008 Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Diabetes in Canada ranks among the world’s best diabetes guidelines, scoring:

• 97.6% for “rigor of development”
• 100% for “editorial independence”
• 100% agreement with evidence-based conclusions

The researchers reviewed 11 English-language guidelines from different countries, comparing guideline recommendations to conclusions from a systematic review of the evidence on oral therapy for diabetes. CDA’s guidelines were second only to those from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) from the United Kingdom.

The Canadian Diabetes Association’s clinical practice guidelines use cutting edge science to inform care across the country. This is a proud tradition that will continue for 2013 and all future versions.
