Gerald S. Wong Service Award
2011 RECIPIENT: Dr. Stuart Ross
AWARD: The Dr. Gerald S. Wong Service Award was established in 1994 to honour the memory of Dr. Gerald S. Wong, an advocate of the highest standard in diabetes care and education, and is awarded to a physician in recognition of significant contribution to the diabetes community.
Stuart Ross is a graduate of the University of Otago, New Zealand. He received his MRACP designation and his FRACP from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. In Canada, he is a member of the FRCP(C).
Currently, Dr Ross is Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary and an endocrinologist with LMC Calgary. He is also Director of the Calgary Metabolic Education and Research Centre, where he is actively involved in the development of diabetes education and research on the local, national and international scene. He remains closely involved in working with Native Canadians in developing new strategies for treating and managing diabetes on native Reserves.
He has been a member of the Federal Task Force on Diabetes, the Federal Advisory Board on Native Diabetes and the Federal Canadian Diabetes Advisory Board. He is a past-Chairman of the Clinical and Scientific Section of the Canadian Diabetes Association and is a member of the Canadian Diabetes Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee.
