Diabetic Retinopathy Leading Cause of Blindness Among Adults in Canada

Research funded by the Canadian Diabetes Association shows that adults with diabetes in Ontario are getting significantly fewer government-funded eye exams than 10 years ago.  Many are simply not aware that coverage by OHIP is in place for annual routine exams.

A Prescription for Exercise?

Research has shown that there is a link between when the number of energy-producing engines (called mitochondria) in fat cells decreases and the development of type 2 diabetes. Understanding how exercise can prevent or reverse reductions could help improve or reverse the development of type 2 diabetes.

Dr. David C. Wright is studying ways to increase the number of energy-producing “engines” in fat tissue, since lower numbers are linked to type 2 diabetes.
