Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose (SMBG) is an important and essential tool for people living with diabetes, and should be individualized for each patient.

Use the recommendation tool in your practice, and work with your patients using the Managing Your Blood Glucose, Lows and Highs, and Blood Glucose Log tools to help them learn the best individual testing pattern for them.

Read the Canadian Diabetes Association’s briefing document on SMBG—as published in the September 2011 issue of the Canadian Journal of Diabetes.

A French version of the briefing document is also available at L’autosurveillance de la glycémie chez les personnes atteintes de diabète de type 2 : document d’information de l’Association canadienne du diabète à l’intention des fournisseurs de soins de santé.

The CDA gratefully acknowledges the diabetes committee of MEDEC for their unrestricted educational grant for the dissemination of our Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose Resources.
