The volunteer role locator tool: A new way to search for volunteer opportunities in your community

imageCanadians give generously of their time to the nation’s non-profit organizations.  According to Statistics Canada, in 2009 12.5 million Canadians donated over 2.1 billion hours – equivalent to 1.1 million paying jobs.  Canadians today see volunteering as an opportunity to gain valuable experience, network with like-minded individuals and to contribute to a cause they believe in.  While there is a significant amount of enthusiasm around volunteering, finding the role that fits can sometimes be a challenge.  While some prospective volunteers may be looking to gain valuable experience to help develop a resume or build Canadian work experience, others may just be looking for a fun opportunity to give back or a way to share their significant and specialized expertise with the Association. To help prospective volunteers find a role that is a perfect match, the Association has developed a Volunteer Role Locator Tool on diabetes.ca

Using this tool, prospective volunteers can browse available opportunities and review information about the specific responsibilities, time commitment and unique benefits of each role.  By providing this information upfront, the Association hopes that prospective volunteers will have more insight into the role they are applying for and whether it’s the best fit for their lifestyle and goals.  The Association realizes that the ideal volunteer experience is mutually beneficial for both the volunteer and the organization. We are committed to providing a range of roles that suit every level of experience and interest and that contribute meaningfully to our mission.  Opportunities range from one-day events for families, groups or workplaces to longer-term leadership opportunities supporting advocacy or programming. Check out opportunities in your community today!
