The Meal Celebrates 30 Successful Years
Titanic star helps raise $30,000 for the Association
For the 30th consecutive year, on April 22 a group of the most talented Chefs in the London area served a feast of culinary delights to more than 400 guests in support of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Raising $30,000 this year, the event is known as The Meal.
To mark this milestone, The Meal welcomed special guest and Honourary Chair, London’s own Victor Garber. With six Emmy and four Tony nominations, Victor is most recognized for his role in Titanic, the highest-grossing film of all-time. Victor, diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age twelve, supports the Canadian Diabetes Association.
“The Association is very fortunate to have such an incredibly motivated and successful team working on its behalf to raise money for research,” says Sue Taylor, Regional Director for Southwest Ontario for the Canadian Diabetes Association. “We want to thank our major sponsors John Zubick Ltd., The London and District Concrete Forming Contractors Association, Marketing Strategies and Solutions and the London Hilton for their dedication and support.”
The annual event originated in 1983 when a group of Chefs approached Bill Brady, the local icon of media and community service, with their idea for adding a unique event to London’s social calendar. Since then, The Meal has earned a reputation as a rare and enlightening dining experience among discerning London “foodies,” while raising more than $1,000,000 to fund research in the fight against diabetes. Bill Brady has continued to Chair the Canadian Diabetes Association Committee and emcee the event through all its 30 years. Next year’s Meal will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
