Thank You!
It has been another great year for Team Diabetes and the Canadian Diabetes Association could not have accomplished all that it has without you – our team members, volunteers, partners, sponsors and donors. Together we have participated in spectacular international events, traveling to Costa Rica, Brazil, Peru, Iceland and the Cayman Islands; ran, walked and cycled in 30 national events, and were joined by literally thousands of teammates. Some were newcomers and some alumni but all proudly wore the coveted Team Diabetes shirt!
Our international teams took the diabetes message around the globe while making an impact for people living with diabetes right here at home. Our team is well recognized at many of these international events and are enthusiastically cheered on by spectators and volunteers alike.
Team Diabetes also had a phenomenal national presence, participating in the Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Victoria and Halifax marathons, 3 cycling events, 5 Run for Diabetes events and 15 Freedom Runs. Grassroots events are an important part of Team Diabetes, providing an opportunity for community involvement from Victoria all the way to St. John’s. For 2013 we will be adding 5 new Freedom Run locations as well as the Saskatchewan Marathon, enabling us to welcome even more participants, volunteers and supporters across the country.
As we look forward to all that 2013 will bring, it is important to remember that being a member of Team Diabetes is not just about running or walking alongside others for a great cause, it’s also about being part of a community who are all working towards the same goal. We are each other’s cheerleaders, travel companions and motivators. Dan Poole, 2012 Calgary Marathon alumnus, captured it well when he stated that “Whether you are living with diabetes or diabetes affects you in some way through a loved one or a friend this is really a way to give back. To be a part of something that makes a difference. […]You get to join a team and a group of people that really care.”
Dan will be joining us as we travel to Reykjavik, Iceland on August 24, 2013. In addition to traveling to Reykjavik, Team Diabetes will be heading to Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Cayman Islands for our three other exciting destinations. We invite you to join our community and become a member of Team Diabetes too by visiting www.teamdiabetes.ca or contact your local Team Diabetes representative for more information. We are looking forward to another great year of leading the fight against diabetes with you all by our side.
