Super seniors donate to the Association
The seniors who live in Revera Inc. centres across Canada (Revera Health Services, Revera Long Term Care Centres and Revera Retirement) certainly aren’t letting their age slow them down. Thanks to these super seniors, Revera Inc. recently donated $13,115.20 to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Each year, Revera Inc. chooses a different charity for their “Celebrating Seniors” project and holds fundraising events for the selected organization. “Revera Inc. is inspired by our residents every day, many of whom have had a lifelong history of giving back to others,” says Cathy Hume, Corporate Director of Regional Marketing and Event Chair. “We honour this spirit by providing a yearly national event that showcases organizations that enhance the lives of seniors. Many Canadians with diabetes are seniors, and we recognize that we provide care and services to 26,000 seniors every day – so we are all impacted by this.”
This year, inspired by Shirley Fielding, one of Revera’s executive directors, the company selected the Canadian Diabetes Association as their charity of choice. Shirley, who works at Appleby Place in Burlington, Ontario, is a member of Team Diabetes and ran the Kelowna Marathon. “The experience was powerful, and people were committed to Canadians with diabetes in every aspect of this event,” she says.
Revera’s seniors are the key leaders of their fundraising efforts. Many residents are the hosts for the day or assist in event planning. Events are far ranging: dances, car washes, garage sales, wine tastings, car shows – even guessing the weight of a pot belly pig! “The fun is endless, and we have such a fabulous time planning and holding our events,” says Cathy.
