Saskatchewan couple goes above and beyond in Weyburn

When George Gilles, 79, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 15 years ago, he got involved with the board of his local Canadian Diabetes Association in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

About five years ago he and his wife Doreen, 72, became increasingly involved with the Association’s Clothesline® program. With the Gilles’s garage serving as drop-off point for those Weyburn residents with items to donate; George stepping up to help load the Clothesline® trucks, often with hundreds of bags of donated items at a time; and Doreen keeping the process orderly; the couple has earned the appreciation of the community and the Association.

Clothesline® raises $750,000 in Saskatchewan to support diabetes research, education and advocacy. For more information, contact (306) 842-2090.
